The International Society for Heart and Lung Transplant (ISHLT) "Journal Watch" is a periodic publication that highlights new and innovative transplant research from around the world. The May 2023 edition highlights research in pulmonology, and features "Subphenotypes of Frailty in Lung Transplant Candidates," a recent publication led by Dr. Jon Singer of UCSF. Authors include Singer Group members Ying Gao, Dr. Steven Hays, Dr. Aida Venado, Dr. Jeffrey Golden, Legna Betancourt, and Dr. John Greenland.
This study analyzed the Short Physical Performance Battery tests completed by participants in LTOG Aim One at the University of California San Francisco, as well as Columbia University and the University of Pennsylvania. This study would not have been possible without the kind participation of the many participants who agreed to complete these tests before and after their transplants.Thank you all for your contribution to transplant research!

Dr. Jon Singer was a guest on the July episode of JHLT: The Podcast. Hosted by Dr. Marty C. Tam, MD, the two discussed the new LT-FS, a novel frailty scale designed specifically for lung transplant candidates. The LT-FS was recently developed by researchers in the Singer Group using the data collected from the LTOG study. Check out the episode here to learn more.
